Why is it tight to open?

The seal is snug for leak protection. Don't use too much force when prying open the latches on both sides of the lid, as this can easily cause damage.Warm-water rinse/soak can make opening easier.

No, it's not insulated. For temperature control, use an insulated lunch bag/ice pack.
